- To make the most of your beam time it is a good idea to have a written set-up procedure, run-plan and tear-down procedure.
- Test Beams start on Wednesday and end on Tuesday. This allows users to arrive on Monday, get required training on Tuesday and get inspected on Wednesday. Exceptions can be made.
- The first day of your beam requested time is usually devoted to installing and obtaining Operational Readiness Clearance (ORC.) Due to the ORC process, beam can NOT be guaranteed for the same day and extensions will not be made. Please make your request appropriately.
- If you have significant installation needs, please request additional time for installation when making a beam request.
- Please include requests for facility equipment when making your beam request. Some equipment needs extra time to be calibrated or installed.
- Holidays and weekends have no effect on the beam, but can effect mechanical/electrical support and safety inspectors.
- Any requests for beam time extensions must go through the FTBF coordinator.
- Requests for extended hours can not be granted if the user did not take full advantage of the beam time available.
- FTBF encourages coincident use of the six stations in the current MTest beamline, with thin-detector users upstream of thick-detectors.
- Users should be familiar with the Policy for Beam Time Extensions.
Special Notes
- Any experiment involving irradiated materials at FTBF musth follow these procedures.
- Anything that goes into the beam enclosure must go through an ORC Inspection.
- Needing to open the key tree every half hour or more is considered frequent and annoying by the MCR.
- Requiring more than two ‘Search and Secure’ procedures a day is considered annoying.
- Dropping the interlocks more than once will lead to questions about your understanding of the Controlled Access Policy.
